At Vancouver International Airport (YVR), WiseIngress helps contractors access lift keys through a QR code, a form configured to the airport’s requirements and a time-limited PIN. This gives administrators visibility into access requests while reducing the need for staff to hand over keys.
The deployment began with three touch keyboxes and grew to 28 during its first nine months. YVR is now exploring additional use cases for the solution.

How contractors request and return keys
Contractors start by scanning a QR code and completing a form. YVR provided the form fields and requirements, so the request process collects the information the airport needs. Administrators can review the submitted details and see who requested access.
A PIN can be issued automatically or held for administrator approval. Once issued, it is sent by text message and displayed on screen. Administrators choose the permitted access period and PIN duration type. The contractor then uses the PIN on the keybox to collect the key.
Contractors can complete this process without installing a mobile app. An app is available as an additional option.
After using the equipment, the contractor receives a reminder to return the key and confirm the return. Return status relies on the contractor’s confirmation.

Fewer handoffs and less administration
For YVR, the reported benefits include fewer staff handoffs, less administration and better visibility into access requests. The lost-key issue for this use case was also resolved.
Early in the project, YVR’s Contractor Performance Lead, Infrastructure Services, shared this feedback:
“Happy with the product so far, will let you know in case of additional need.”
Visibility with offline and online options
The standard keybox setup operates offline. Administrators can view form submissions and identify who requested access, while keybox activity logs become available after synchronization through the WiseIngress mobile app near the keybox.
For businesses that need online features, an optional Wi-Fi bridge enables live activity records, PIN revocation before expiry, remote unlocking, battery monitoring and custom PIN generation. This is an additional configuration available to customers.
Supporting more use cases
YVR currently uses the touch keybox with a hanging shackle and has expressed interest in the wall-mounted lockbox with physical buttons. The two formats offer different installation options as organizations consider where they need to manage key access.
WiseIngress hardware is straightforward to install. Platform setup, custom forms, administrator training, ongoing support and hardware replacement are also available to support each project’s requirements.
